Azure Virtual Desktop fuels powerful remote working through allowing users to access their office desktop and all associated documents and applications from any location. How Secure is Azure Virtual Desktop?

Azure Hosted Desktop powers productivity from any location without compromising data security.

Built-in Security

Keep company data secure by storing it within Microsoft Azure rather than in local storage.

With data stored within the cloud rather than on local desktops, data is kept away from endpoints, which reduces the risk of data loss if a local device becomes compromised by cybercriminals, lost or stolen.

Microsoft Azure’s range of security solutions, tools and platforms, such as automation and encryption offers further layers of security protection.

Disaster Recovery

Should disaster strike, your users can continue to work with data, documents and applications stored away from physical infrastructures.

Data stored within the cloud can be easily backed up and restored, when required.

Furthermore, should your team be unable to work within your physical premises due to a disaster, they can easily work remotely with access to the necessary applications, data and documents on their office desktop on any device, from any location.

Multi-factor Authentication

Users will need to pass multiple layers of authentication in order to access their Virtual Desktop.

Azure Virtual Desktop supports the use of multi-factor authentication, to prevent data from being stolen by cyber criminals. In the event of a device being lost or stolen, multi-factor authentication can prevent access to the device by unauthorised individuals through the requirement of multiple authentication methods.

There are a range of authentication methods that your business can integrate within the Azure Virtual Desktop to prevent unauthorised access. For example, access could require a combination of a code, a password and a gateway accessed via a mobile phone in order to provide access to the Virtual Desktop.

Role-based Access Control (RBAC)

Monitor and manage access to data within your Microsoft Azure infrastructure through assigning Role-based Access Control.

With Azure RBAC, you can control who has access to Azure resources and the actions they are able to complete with these resources.

Assigning Azure RBAC can provide the following benefits:

  • Allow one user to manage virtual machines within a subscription and another user to manage virtual networks.
  • Allow users to manage all resources in a resource group, such as virtual machines and websites.
  • Allow an application to access all resources within a group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Explore some key Azure Virtual Desktop FAQs.

Why should I deploy Azure Virtual Desktop, when all my applications are installed on my business’s PCs or laptops?

Azure Virtual Desktop provides a much higher level of security for your applications and data, as everything is hosted centrally in the cloud rather than being spread across multiple end-user devices. Azure Virtual Desktop is also easier to control and update with automatic security patches and software upgrades.

Can I use Teams in AVD?

Yes. Microsoft Teams is supported within Azure Virtual Desktop for chat and collaboration and has been optimised to offload video and audio to the local device. There are some limitations, such as video screen resolution, which is limited to 720 px.

How do I migrate my business systems and data to Azure Virtual Desktop?

Our team of Netcentrix engineers and specialists will take care of the migration of your current systems over to Microsoft Azure and will support the implementation of Azure Virtual Desktop within your business. Our support team will be on hand to answer any queries or requests you have during migration, implementation and after your solution has been installed.

How fast does my internet connection need to be to support Azure Virtual Desktop.

As part of your consultation, Netcentrix will review whether your internet connection is capable of supporting Azure Virtual Desktop and will support you in improving your connectivity, should this be required to implement Azure Virtual Desktop.

What are the licencing requirements for Azure Virtual Desktop?

Azure Virtual Desktop is licenced via eligible Microsoft 365 licencing. Don’t worry if you are unsure what Microsoft licencing your business possesses – our experts will ensure that you have the correct licences and will review them to ensure you are not paying for licences you neither use nor need.

What is the difference between Azure VM and Azure Virtual Desktop?

Azure Virtual Desktop and Azure virtual machines serve two separate purposes. Azure VM provides the infrastructure that is needed for hosting virtual machines. Azure Virtual Desktop is a Desktop as a Service (DaaS) that virtualises desktop environments, so they can be accessed by a range of devices from any location.
