Alfa Travel is one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing coach holiday companies covering the North West, North East, Midlands and the South East of England, providing coverage to most of the main population centres in England and North Wales. Since 2012 the company has also offered foreign escorted tours through its Tour and Explore website. The business has been in operation for 29 years and is part of the Alfa Leisureplex Group.

The Background

The Lancashire based Alfa Leisureplex Group is the only employee owned Travel Company within the UK and has been catering for clients on coach holidays and hotel breaks for over 30 years in top seaside resorts throughout Great Britain. Expertly planned from start to finish, the operator offers passengers a range of vibrant and exciting destinations with the convenience of well-situated pick up points throughout the UK.

Exceptional customer service is guaranteed thanks to an enthusiastic team of over 700 employees, which make up the employee-owned Alfa Leisureplex Group. Within the group’s three subsidiaries includes Alfa Coaches and its 50 vehicle fleet with experienced drivers. Handling the operational side of its coach holiday packages is Alfa Travel, whilst Leisureplex Hotels offers a range of overnight stays at 21 superb locations, many with stunning views

The Challenge working together

The Challenge

Alfa Travel was looking to improve its communications service and put in place a cloud backup for its premises in Chorley, Lancashire. The business had nowhere to store its data in a secure location outside of its premises, which was leaving it vulnerable in the event of a disaster at its premises. The business also had a poorly supported leased line; which on one occasion had been down for three days as no out of hours support was provided with the service. Alfa Travel considered this unacceptable as customer service is its number one priority, and with lines down they were unable to respond promptly to customer calls.

The solution we came together to make this partnership work

The Solution

After discussing Alfa Travel’s needs, Elite recommended Veeam’s Cloud Connect as the right solution for them to provide backup services in the cloud. The business would be able to copy data across and secure it independently of their offices. We also recommended installing MPLS connectivity from Elite, which has given the business access to a more reliable, faster line which provides a backup line should the first one fail.

Cloud Connect was integrated with Alfa’s VMWare system and with Elite’s new leased line. Cloud Connect allows for physical and virtual backups off-site and replicates VMs (virtual machines) without the cost and complexity of building and maintaining an off-site infrastructure. It provides a fully integrated, fast and secure way to backup and replicate to a service provider’s cloud repository

The Results

Elite’s MPLS network offers incredibly high-speeds and better performance, lower costs of ownership and a Quality of Service (QoS) platform for next-generation over-the-top (OTT) services. It is also supported 24/7 by our managed services team.

Alfa Travel has de-risked its business as Cloud Connect mitigates the risk of storing all its data at a single point. The company also has greater peace of mind now that its customers will always be able to connect with them as it has a reliable communications line in the form of our MPLS service. The business also has 24/7 support and has reduced its connectivity costs by 20 per cent.
